This Saturday, January 7, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) Cruz Azul will host Necaxa at the Estadio Azul in Mexico City. This match is one of the most noteworthy matches in Week 1 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 as the ‘cementeros’ have made several key new signings and will look to earn their first 3 points against the ‘rayos’ who last season surprised more than a few with their playoff run.

Cruz Azul will have several key debuts this Saturday most significantly seen on the sideline as Spanish coach Paco Jemez will make his Liga MX debut. Aside from him, the ‘cementeros’ made several important player acquisitions like Gabriel Peñalba from Veracruz, Martin Rodriguez from Colo Colo, and Angel Mena from Emelec. With these signings Cruz Azul will look to return to winning as last season they were a disappointment after only earning 19 points and finishing in 14th place.

Necaxa was the Apertura 2016’s Cinderella team during the regular season as they reached the playoffs in their return to the first division. This season they will attempt to begin on the right note with at least a tie against Cruz Azul in what will undoubtedly be a very hard fought game. The team coached by Alfonso Sosa made three important signings which will allow them to gain more depth to their already efficient squad: Nicolas Maturana from Universidad de Chile, Jonas Aguirre from Rosario Central, and Maxi Barreiro from Delfin.
