Chelsea are set to sign Exeter City wonderkid Ethan Ampadu for £2m, according to local newspaper Plymouth Herald.
The report claims the 16-year-old impressed Chelsea when the Blues met with Exeter City in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier this season and the Premier League side’s scouts have been following his progress ever since.
The newspaper goes on to suggest Arsenal are also keen on Ampadu, but even though the player’s father works as a coach in the Gunners’ youth academy, it’s not enough to prevent the young Welshman from moving to Stamford Bridge.
Ampadu plays as a defensive midfielder and is currently representing Wales’ Under-19 national team.
He made his first-team debut for the League 2 side last August and was even voted Welsh Young Player of the Year.
Ampadu, whose current contract is due to expire next summer, has already made 9 appearances in all competitions for Exeter City this season.
The young Welshman could soon join Chelsea’s academy, which is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe.
