Report: Manchester United favorites to sign 23-year-old Premier League defender

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report suggests Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his defensive options and has identified Keane, who left Old Trafford for Burnley last year, as a leading transfer target.

Keane left United in search for regular first-team football in 2015 and has since established himself as a solid, dependable centre-back.

He was fantastic for Burnley last season, helping them to promotion from the Championship, and is now showing he’s perfectly comfortable in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has made 11 Premier League appearances for Burnley this season, scoring 1 goal in his team’s 2-0 win over Watford on September 26th.

Manchester United have had defensive problems since the start of the season, with only Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia not disappointing with their performances.

Phil Jones’ return against Swansea City was a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho, especially in such a difficult period for the team.

However, Eric Bailly’s injury is still a major factor and the Portuguese manager needs to address the lack of quality and depth in his defense during the January transfer window if he wants this season to be a success.

United could be on the verge of bringing back yet another player after Paul Pogba’s return earlier this year.

Michael Keane would be a good addition to the squad as he’s one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League and is already well familiar with the club.
