Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made signing Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann his number one priority for next summer, according to the Sun.
The report suggests United could use Griezmann’s France teammate, Paul Pogba, to convince the explosive attacker to move to Old Trafford.
Griezmann has already admitted Pogba is one of his close friends and that he often watches United’s games on TV.
“We get on very well. It is true that the Euros has brought us closer together still,” Griezmann said.
“Paul is a really nice guy. He is it! We send messages, Snaptchats. He’s really a good friend. When he plays with his club, I try to look at it to see if he had a good game or not.”
However, United are reportedly set to face competition for Griezmann’s signature as Chelsea and Arsenal are also thought to be interested.
There have even been some reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to activate Griezmann’s £89.3m release clause, which would make the 25-year-old the most expensive footballer in history.
Griezmann, who joined Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad two years ago, is surely one of the best players in the world.
He’s extremely quick, has great technique and is also a great finisher. He’d be brilliant in Mourinho’s fast, counter-attacking system.
He renewed his contract with Los Rojiblancosuntil 2021 earlier this year, so Atletico are in a very strong position to keep him at the club unless someone activates his release clause.
It could be a close race for his signature, so Paul Pogba’s presence at Old Trafford could be the deciding factor.
