Manchester United attacker Juan Mata is “desperate” to stay at Old Trafford and wants to sign an extension to his current contract, according to the Sun.
The report suggests Mata has already held talks with Jose Mourinho over the new deal, with the club keen to resolve the issue before the end of the year.
Mata’s current £130,000-a-week contract expires in the summer of 2018.
The creative attacker has forced his way into Mourinho’s starting eleven in the past couple of weeks and enjoyed a fantastic game against Leicester City at Old Trafford last weekend, scoring United’s second goal and assisting the third in a 4-1 demolition of the current Premier League champions.
Mata showed his class in the role behind the striker and is currently a much better option than Rooney as the Spaniard is much more creative and positive in his play.
The team’s overall attacking play is also way more fluid with Mata behind the striker and Leicester just couldn’t cope with his movement, creativity and quick thinking.
Offering Mata a new deal would definitely be a good idea. He’s obviously settled in Manchester, is a class player and seems to be very loyal as well.
Every club needs a player like Mata and if he extends his stay at Old Trafford, the fans would have a big reason to be delighted.
