Manchester United will look to get back on track in their EPL campaign, after losing to Manchester City and Feyenoord in their last two matches. Watford are not a bad team, so Manchester United will need to be sharp if they want to get the full three points on the road in this game.
Let’s take a look at the possible lineup.
GK- David de Gea
Pretty easy decision, de Gea will be starting every league game, as long as he is healthy.
LB- Luke Shaw
Mourinho rested Shaw for the midweek game against Feyenoord to save him for this fixture against Watford. Unless something comes up for him health-wise, he will be in the starting XI.
CB- Daley Blind and Eric Bailly
Blind and Bailly have proven to be an effective center back duo early on this season. Chris Smalling could fit in here if one of these two has a drop in form, but for now I expect to see Blind and Bailly continue to start together.
RB- Antonio Valencia
Valencia has started off strong this season, and he is the best option for United at right back. He did not play in the midweek game against Feyenoord, so he should be fully rested and ready to go.
CM- Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba
Despite constant criticism, Fellaini has actually been very good for Manchester United so far this season, and he deserves to start. Fellaini has done great defensive work this season, leading the team in tackles per game, and he has also done a nice job keeping possession of the ball with a 87.9% pass success rate. Pogba has also been very good this year, and he is an obvious choice to start.
AML- Anthony Martial
Martial has not gotten off to the best start this season, but Mourinho doesn’t have a ton of options at this position. Martial was arguably the best player on Manchester United last season, so Mourinho might be best off continuing to play Martial and waiting for him to find his old form.
AMC- Wayne Rooney
Jose Mourinho decided to give Wayne Rooney a rest on Thursday to help keep him fresh for the match on Sunday, so expect to see Wayne in the starting XI against Watford.
AMR- Juan Mata
Henrik Mkhitaryan is still dealing with an injury, and he has not found his footing yet this season. Juan Mata should continue to fill in at this position until Mkhitaryan gets more healthy and comfortable in the EPL.
ST- Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Marcus Rashford is the striker of the future for United, but Zlatan is still the superior option in the present. Zlatan has scored 4 goals in 4 league games for United, so it’s difficult to argue with his production.
