Arsenal are interested in signing Sunderland teenager Joel Asoro, according to Swedish newspaper Expressen.
The report suggests the Gunners are following the 17-year-old’s progress very closely, but face competition from Championship side Newcastle United.
The teenage striker, who moved to the Black Cats from Swedish side Brommapojkarna one year ago, made his Sunderland first-team debut against Middlesbrough on August 21st and is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s best young talents right now.
Asoro, who can play up front or behind the main striker, scored 14 goals in 21 games for his county’s Under-17 national teambetween August 2015 and May 2016 and his fine goalscoring form has allowed him to move up to the Under-21 squad.
He made his Under-21 debut in his country’s 1-1 draw with Spain two days ago.
Arsenal arealways looking to sign the best youngsters around, so their reported interest in Asoro is not a surprise.
However, Sunderland are likely to place a heavy price tag on Asoro’s head as they wouldn’t want to lose one of Europe’s top talents on the cheap.
