Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett is set to join Championship side Reading, according to the Sun.

The report claims Blackett is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and has been made available for transfer, with United’s former centre-back, Jaap Stam, keen to take the versatile defender to the Madejski Stadium this month.

The 22-year-old, who had to endure a frustrating loan spell at Celtic last season, is well down the pecking order at United and it’d be better for him to try his luck elsewhere.

The Sun’s report doesn’t mention whether it’d be a season-long loan or a permanent transfer, but with Blackett’s contract due to expire next summer, it’d make more sense to sell him this month.

He’s not really good enough for a place in United’s first team and it appears as though Mourinho has come to the same conclusion.

Reading would be a good move for Blackett. He’d be able to learn from one of the best centre-backs in history and would probably get more than enough chances to impress.
