Manchester United striker James Wilson is set to leave the club on loan, with Championship sides Derby County and Fulham battling for his signature, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The report claims Wilson has been made available for a loan move away from Old Trafford and is expected to leave the club by the end of the week.

Jose Mourinho reportedly believes a temporary move to the Championship would be beneficial for the 20-year-old striker.

Wilson, who hasn’t been given a squad number at United yet, looks set to return to the Championship after spending part of last season on loan at Brighton.

Spending some time on loan at an ambitious Championship club would be a smart move as he needs regular first-team football.

Getting enough playing time at United seems unrealistic given the meteoric rise of Marcus Rashford and the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but this doesn’t mean Wilson doesn’t have a future at Old Trafford.

Wilson is believed to be highly-rated by Jose Mourinho and if he impresses in the Championship this season, he’d surely be considered for a place in the senior team at Old Trafford next summer.
