Manchester United reportedly interested in Real Madrid attacker

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The report claims Real Madrid have informed the Colombian international he should look for another club as he isn’t in Zinedine Zidane’s first-team plans.

Manchester United are believed to be keen on the out-of-favour attacking midfielder, but are likely to face competition from fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Arsenal.

James Rodriguez lost his starting place at Real Madrid when Zinedine Zidane took charge in January and it seems like the 25-year-old has failed to change the French legend’s mind this summer.

The former Monaco player was left on the bench for Real Madrid’s European Super Cup win over Sevilla last week.

Rodriguez is thought to be well down the pecking order at Real Madrid and things are likely to get even more difficult for him as Zidane apparently rates Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez higher than the Colombian.

He’d be a good signing for United, but Real Madrid would probably want to recoup much of the €75m they paid Monaco two years ago, which would make the switch unrealistic.

It’s hard to imagine United paying yet another large fee this summer after Pogba’s record-breaking transfer earlier this month, especially considering the fact Wayne Rooney is still viewed as an important part of the starting eleven.
