Juan Mata is likely to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer, according to Sky Sports.
The report suggests Mata is part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, even though his future has been the subject of intense speculation following his double substitution in the final minutes of United’s Community Shield game against Leicester City at Wembley last Sunday.
Mata has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford following Mourinho’s appointment in May, but it seems like the Spaniard has managed to change the Portuguese manager’s mind.
Mourinho decided to sell Mata to United in January 2014 due to the Spaniard’s low work rate and the 28-year-old was tipped to be the first casualty of the Portuguese’s regime.
However, it looks like Mata will survive this transfer window and will continue to represent the Red Devils.
Mata is unlikely to be a regular starter at the beginning of this season, but if he performs well enough, he could always force his way into the starting eleven.
