Riyad Mahrez has agreed to a move to Arsenal, according to express.co.uk (via Algerian newspaper Le Buteur). The deal for Mahrez is said to be around £40 million.
The report also claims that Mahrez has rejected a £100,000 per week contract from Leicester City in order to join the Gunners instead.
It’s worth mentioning that, as of now, nothing has been confirmed by Arsenal or Leicester City, so the move is not yet official.
Arsene Wenger has been chasing Mahrez for most of the transfer window, but Leicester City have been reluctant to give up their star player. However, if Mahrez is insistent on moving to Arsenal, then the deal has a very good chance of happening.
Mahrez finished 5th in the league in goals scored last season with 17, and also tied for 5th in the league in assists with 11. He would definitely add some much needed punch to Arsenal’s attack if he is acquired.
It seems more likely than not that Arsenal will be able to get Mahrez, but with no official move announced yet the deal is not a sure thing. If this report is accurate, the deal should become official very soon.
