German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to become the highest-profile casualty of Jose Mourinho’s clear-out at Manchester United this summer, according to the BBC.
The report claims Schweinsteiger and 8 other players have been made available for transfer by Mourinho.
BBC’s report is actually quite specific and mentions the 8 players that are likely to join Schweinsteiger through the exit door – Wilson, Januzaj, Keane, Pereira, Borthwick-Jackson, Fosu-Mensah, Blackett and McNair.
If the information is to be believed, all of them are free to look for new clubs this summer, but most of the youngsters are likely to leave on loan rather than permanently.
However, it seems like Schweinsteiger doesn’t have a future at United and is likely to leave only a year after arriving from Bayern Munich.
The 31-year-old, who announced his retirement from international football earlier today, still has two years left on his contract at United, so the Red Devils may experience difficulty in finding a club willing to pay his wages.
Given Schweinsteiger’s persistent injury problems, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave United after a single season in England.
He’s been heavily linked with a loan move to Turkish champions Besiktas in the past few weeks and it seems like Besiktas’ chances of signing the German have been boosted by Mourinho’s reported desire to offload the midfielder.
