Napoli are keen to sign Manchester United right-back Matteo Darmian, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The report claims Darmian is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and Napoli are ready to take advantage of the situation by spending some of the money they’ll receive for Gonzalo Higuain on the Italian international.
Juventus are widely expected to complete the signing of Gonzalo Higuain in the next couple of days after reportedly activating his €94m release clause.
If Higuain leaves Napoli for Juventus this summer, Maurizio Sarri would have plenty of money to spend on new players and Darmian is believed to be one of his main transfer targets.
The 26-year-old former Torino defender only moved to Manchester United last summer, but failed to convince with his performances last season.
Darmian, who can play on either side of the defense, made 32 appearances in all competitions for United over the course of the 2015/16 season.
The Italian deserves a chance to impress Mourinho next season, but even if he ends up leaving this summer, it wouldn’t be a great loss.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Monaco right-back Fabinho, so maybe Mourinho is already scouring the transfer market for Darmian’s replacement.
