Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to become the highest-profile casualty of Jose Mourinho’s clear-out at Old Trafford, according to the Telegraph.
The report suggests Schweinsteiger is well down the pecking order at United and Paul Pogba’s expected arrival is likely to accelerate the German’s departure this summer.
Jose Mourinho is believed to have doubts over Schweinsteiger’s mobility and it seems like the former Bayern Munich midfielder is set to leave Old Trafford after only one season in the Premier League.
The 31-year-old was brought to Old Trafford by Louis Van Gaal last summer, but failed to make an impact due to his persisting injury problems.
Schweinsteiger only made 18 Premier League appearances for United last season and missed his team’s final two months of the campaign.
He’s reportedly set to return from his post-Euro 2016 holidays on Thursday, but it appears as though he’s not in Mourinho’s first-team plans.
Schweinsteiger is thought to be earning £150,000 a week, so it’d be very difficult to find him a buyer.
If Mourinho wants to offload the midfielder this summer, United would probably have to loan him out and even pay part of his wages next season to make it happen.
