Jose Mourinho is keen to add an experienced defender to his team this summer, according to the Daily Record.
The report suggests Mourinho is worried about his back four’s relative inexperience and wants to sign another, more experienced centre-back to lead the club to success next season.
United have already strengthened their defense this summer with the acquisition of 22-year-old Eric Bailly for a reported fee of £30m, but it seems like Mourinho is determined to add more leadership and experience to the back four.
Signing another centre-back this summer would be a good move from Mourinho. He’s always depended on experienced centre-backs at his former clubs and United are unlikely to be an exception.
If Mourinho signs another centre-back, it’d allow him to depend less on the extremely unreliable Rojo and Jones.
Rojo has failed to convince since his move from Sporting CP two years ago, whereas Jones spent most of last season on the sidelines due to his persistent injury problems.
It also seems like Mourinho doesn’t plan on using Daley Blind at centre-back, which would only increase the need for another defender.
