Winger Jesse Lingard is set to sign a new £40,000-a-week deal at Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report claims Manchester United had wanted to offer Lingard a new deal at the end of last season, but the plans had to be put on hold due to the uncertainty over the future of Louis Van Gaal.
Now that United have sorted the managerial situation with the appointment of Jose Mourinho, talks between the club and Lingard’s representatives are believed to be underway with the special permission of the Portuguese manager.
The 23-year-old winger, who’s been at the club since 2000, established himself in Louis Van Gaal’s starting eleven last season and made the right wing position his own.
Lingard scored 6 goals in 33 appearances last season and basically clinched the FA Cup for his team with his extra-time goal against Crystal Palace in the final.
Giving Lingard a new contract is a good move from Mourinho. He’s a hard-working player, whose pace will surely appeal to the Portuguese manager and will be an important part of the squad next season.
