Spanish reports reveal that La Liga side want Manchester United defender

Rojo

Villarreal are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The report suggests the Spanish side is looking to strengthen its defense this summer and Rojo’s versatility appeals to them.

However, United are believed to want to recoup most of the €20m they paid to Sporting Lisbon two years ago, which could be a stumbling block for the Yellow Submarine.

Rojo, who’s reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho, had to endure an injury-plagued 2015/16 season, during which he made 21 appearances in all competitions for United.

This wouldn’t be the first piece of business between Manchester United and Villarreal this summer as the Spanish side already sanctioned Eric Bailly’s sale to United last month.

The 26-year-old is too injury-prone and even when he’s available for selection, his performances are far from good enough.

Moving to Spain would be a good career choice for Rojo. He’s struggled to adapt to the speed of the Premier League, so he’d probably enjoy the slower tempo of Spanish football.
