Barcelona reportedly ready to make a shock move for Manchester United flop

Depay

Barcelona are interested in Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay, according to Spanish magazine Don Balon.

The report claims the Spanish champions will make a move for Depay if they cannot complete the signing of Atletico Madrid forward Luciano Vietto, who’s their first-choice attacking target this summer.

The magazine goes on to suggest there are other interested clubs, with Juventus believed to have offered €20m for the Netherlands international.

The 22-year-old former PSV Eindhoven winger had to endure a frustrating 2015/16 season, during which he was in and out of Louis Van Gaal’s starting eleven.

Depay scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 45 appearances for United last season.

His future has been the subject of much speculation over the past few weeks, but it seems like he’ll get his chance to impress Jose Mourinho during the club’s pre-season and he’s already started training with the rest of the team ahead of the friendly against Wigan Athletic this Saturday.

Depay’s performances have been very disappointing so far, but he should get another chance to kick-start his United career under Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho’s tactics and preferred style of play are entirely different to Van Gaal’s possession-based philosophy, so it’ll be interesting to see how Depay performs next season.
