Arsenal are continuing their pursuit for attacking players, and they are reportedly interested in Sporting CP striker Islam Slimani, according to Metro.co.uk (via A Bola). Slimani has a £24 million release clause in his contract.
Slimani has been a productive player in Portugal for three years now. In the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons combined, Slimani scored a total of 20 league goals for Sporting CP in 47 appearances.
Slimani then had a fantastic season for Sporting CP last year in the Primeira Liga. He finished in second place in the golden boot race, tallying 27 goals in 33 appearances.
Slimani would be a good fit at Arsenal, and he would be a quality signing. He has proven himself in the Portuguese league, and has earned the opportunity to move to a bigger club.
However, despite their reported interest in Slimani, I do not think Arsenal will acquire him this summer.
I think there are cheaper options at striker on the transfer market, and I do not think Arsenal would want to pay £24 million to trigger the release clause in Slimani’s contract.
