As the Mirror reports, Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney would like to extend his contract and finish his career at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old Englishman is currently in France leading the Three Lions in their quest for European Championship glory, but the now midfielder has indicated he would like to extend his career and see out his twilight years as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs did before him in the center of the pitch.
Rooney has been linked with moves away from the Manchester giants back in 2010 and once again in 2013. Jose Mourinho, who had just made his way back to Chelsea in 2013, was the manager that tried to tempt Rooney away.
However, then United manager David Moyes was able to convince Rooney to stay and sign a new contract that currently expires in 2019 when the captain will be 34 years of age.
Rooney’s worth has always been a hot topic in recent years, especially among United supporters. There is no question that he isn’t the same player that he was back in 2010 and one could argue that his play has dipped even further since his most recent contract signing in February 2014.
Jose Mourinho has always been a fan of Rooney and his industry is something that the Portuguese manager values. If there is a manager that can inspire Rooney to get back to his old form, it is the Special One.
