Report: Manchester United ready to make shock swoop for Chelsea man

Azpilicueta

Manchester United are keen on signing Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The report suggests Jose Mourinho wants to bring the defender to Old Trafford this summer, but United aren’t the only interested club as Athletic Bilbao and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the Spaniard.

The 26-year-old, who can play on either side of the defense, made 49 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.

Azpilicueta would be a great signing for any of the aforementioned teams.

Athletic Bilbao are famous for only signing Basque players and the Pamplona-born defender fits the criteria.

A potential move to PSG would probably appeal to the player as it’s a very ambitious club that wants to win the Champions League in the near future. Azpilicueta has already played in the French league, so he wouldn’t need time to adapt.

It appears as though Jose Mourinho is interested as well. He always likes to have versatile players at his disposal and Azpilicueta certainly fits the bill.

Given Darmian’s unconvincing displays last season and the fact Luke Shaw hasn’t played a single minute since his terrible injury last September, Azpilicueta would be a very good signing for United.

However, it’s hard to imagine Chelsea letting Azpilicueta go to a domestic rival.
