After losing right back Dani Alves to Italian giants Juventus, Barcelona are now trying their best to prevent Javier Mascherano from doing the same, as per Spanish Media outlet Marca.
Currently on International duty with Argentina in the Copa America, the Argentine defender has been linked with a move away from Barcelona in the summer.
In order to extinguish the tensions between the player and the club, Barcelona are sending Technical Secretary Robert Fernandez to the USA.
He will meet with the player with an offer of an improved contract also on the table.
In addition to the player’s own desire of leaving the Camp Nou, the rumors that Luis Enrique is seeking to fortify his defense by reinforcements have also troubled the Argentine.
The likes of Everton defender Jon Stones and Lyon’s center back Samuel Umtiti are the names that are being heavily linked with the Catalan club in the last few weeks.
Thus, in addition to seeking an improved contract from the club, Mascherano will also need assurances regarding his future in the Barcelona starting XI.
However, despite all the efforts from Barcelona to end the rumors immediately, it is expected that Mascherano will only decide on his future after the Copa America.
Argentina have reached the quarter-final of the competition, in which they will face Venezuela.
