New Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has identified Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere, as his prime target for the summer transfer window, as per The Sun. After the signing of Ilkay Gundogan, who cost the Citizens £21 million, Wilshere has emerged as a shock transfer target for Manchester City.
Before Guardiola, Manuel Pellegrini also rated the 24-year-old highly. However, Wilshere broke his leg in Arsenal’s pre-season last year, which forced Pellegrini to back off from his pursuit.
In addition to the strong interest from Manchester City, it is the competition for places at Arsenal that might force Wilshere to wave goodbye to Arsenal. The Gunners signed Granit Xhaka last month and are expected to further fortify their midfield before the end of this season.
One thing that might force Manchester City to make their move is the performance of Wilshere in the upcoming EURO 2016.
Despite sitting out most of last season, Wilshere has been included in the 23-man English contingent that will travel to France later this month. Thus, if Wilshere makes his move to the Etihad, he will join his forces with former Arsenal players like Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri.
