Mexico vs Chile Pre-Copa America – Where to Watch, Preview June 1, 2016

In front of a huge crowd in San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, Mexico and Chile will face-off in a pre-Copa America friendly this Wednesday, June 1, 2016 (7:00 PM Pacific). This game will be their final friendly practice prior to the start of the much anticipated Copa America Centenario which is scheduled to begin next Friday, June 3rd.

The Mexican national team under Colombian coach Juan Carlos Osorio‘s tenure is undefeated after 6 games, and has yet to receive a goal. Although in those games the ‘tri’ has faced opponents in the caliber of Canada or El Salvador, Mexico has looked good, outplaying their opponents while at the same time utilizing many different formations and lineups. Nonetheless, against Chile at Qualcomm it will be a much more difficult test as they face the 3rd best FIFA rank team.

Chile is entering a new era as Argetine Juan Antonio Pizzi was appointed only a few months ago after coach Jorge Sampaoli did not renew his contract. The effects of the coaching change was most recently noticeable last when when ‘La Roja’ succumed against a much weaker (on paper) Jamaican side 1-2 last week. While that game was a friendly, it was a surprising loss, and therefore the match against Mexico will serve as a good parameter to determine Chile’s form prior to the start of the Copa America.
