FC Barcelona managed to attain their second consecutive Copa Del Rey championship following a 2-0 victory over Sevilla at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. After receiving a total of 28 Copa Del Rey trophies, FC Barcelona have now won a total of 63 titles throughout the club’s history.
Although Argentinean Leo Messi was not able to find himself on the score board after the match, he managed to assist both Jordi Alba and Neymar in their late match goals.
Seven minutes into overtime, Messi was able to successfully complete a marvelous pass from midfield to Alba, just past Sevilla’s defense that allowed Alba to net the ball into the bottom right corner.
Leading by one goal, Barcelona were still on the hunt for more. In injury time following the second half of overtime, Messi was once again able to assist in Neymar’s goal, which put the team up 2-0.
With Messi assisting the Barcelona squad to win their 28th Copa Del Rey title, the Argentinean was able to add another championship onto his already heavily filled accomplishments.
While his time at Barcelona, Messi has now won a total of 28 titles in the following competitions: La Liga, Champions League, Spanish Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and FIFA World Cup.
Individually, Messi has won 24 awards ranging from league top scorer, to the FIFA Ballon d’Or.
