After a Man of the Match performance against Bournemouth, Wayne Rooney agrees that the midfield is the right place for him to play. The England international feels convinced that his new position is the best place for him to play for Manchester United. “I think sometimes you have to make choices in your career, and at the minute it is probably better for me to play deeper,’ said Wayne.
Since last season, Louis Van Gaal has deployed Wayne Rooney in a more central role and over the time Rooney has adapted to his new position. His effectiveness, which was seemingly lost in a centre forward position, is more in a midfield role.
Rooney’s work rate has increased and he has been involved in more goals. Moreover, the arrival of Anthony Martial and the emergence of Marcus Rashford has enabled Van Gaal to play Wayne Rooney centrally without worrying about the finishing up-front.
“Now obviously it is a bit different with England, still being a striker for England. But certainly after that [Euro 2016], for next season, that [midfield] is probably where I see myself playing,”
However, he accepts that for England he will continue in forward’s position, but might play in a mid-field role permanently next season.
