Louis Van Gaal has truly revitalized Wayne Rooney’s game in a completely different position than he has played over the past years. Since last year, Rooney has been playing like a midfielder under Louis Van Gaal and the manager wants to continue in the same fashion.
“I think that Rashford does a very good job in the striker’s position and now Wayne can contribute in the midfield,” said Van Gaal. Marcus Rashford has been handed the goal-scoring boots at Old Trafford, which has led to a shift in Rooney’s position, which may be permanent under the Dutchman.
Wayne Rooney played very impressively in the midfield against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final, especially, it was Rooney and Carrick who controlled the tempo of the game for Manchester United.
Van Gaal has assured that Rooney will be in his new midfielder role for the time being. Rooney himself is enjoying the midfield as, according to him, it helps him to be more involved in the game with a greater influence.
