The first leg of the highly anticipated CONCACAF Champions League final will begin when Tigres UANL host Club America this Wednesday, April 20, 2016 (6:45 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey. This game is expected to be one of the best finals in CCL history as both teams are in the comfort of highly talented rosters.

Tigres of UANL will participate in their third final within the last calendar year. Last August they were defeated against River Plate in the Copa Libertadores, and in December they were crowned Liga MX champions in a suspenseful match against Pumas UNAM. This Wednesday, Tigres will have the home support of the best fans in Mexico, and along with a roster lead by Andre Gignac, they will hope to earn a win to reach the second leg with a good advantage.

To reach the final, the team coached by Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferretti defeated Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinals, and Queretaro in the semifinals. If Tigres win the final series, it would be their first international title.

Club America will enter the Universitario with a lot of pressure as they visit one of the toughest and rowdiest stadiums in Mexico. To their misfortune, the team coached by Ignacio Ambriz may be without six players (injuries and suspensions) which will make the game that much more difficult for the ‘aguilas’. Nonetheless, America has an outstanding team and they aren’t new to finals as just last year they won the Concachampions final against Montreal Impact.

To reach the final, the ‘azulcremas’ defeated the Seattle Sounders in the quarterfinals, and Santos Laguna in the semifinals. If America win the final series, they would represent the CONCACAF region in the FIFA Club World Cup for the second consecutive year.

The finals will be decided next week on April 27 when America hosts Tigres at the Estadio Azteca for the second leg.
