3. Bastian Schweinsteiger (£7 million)
Too slow, too many injuries, too uncreative. That pretty much sums up Schweinsteiger’s season. Before this season, van Gaal was praised for snatching his old midfield ace from Bayern for little money.
But it was not for long until the Dutchman realized himself that the German was no longer as strong and powerful as he used to be. While his passing is still on point, Schweinsteiger is missing speed and with only one goal and one assist in 18 games in the league he rarely threatens the opponent.
In addition, he already missed 17 games due to injuries and there are more to come. Because of that, the World Cup champion also had to deal with criticism by soccer idols like Gary Lineker, Paul Scholes and even van Gaal himself.
2. Memphis Depay (£27 million)
Depay started off on the right foot at Manchester. In the qualification for the UCL in August against Bruges he scored twice and assisted two more goals.
The bad part is that the participation in these four goals is more than what he has achieved in 25 appearances in the league so far, where he scored twice and assisted only once. A horribly statistic for a left wing and one of the reasons why the Red Devils have only scored 40 times this EPL season. He also said that he is aware of his bad performances and is working hard on improving them.
1. Matteo Damian (£14 million)
At first you might wonder why Darmian is included in this list. He has already appeared 26 times in the league and with only 30 goals scored against Manchester United they have the second best defense after the Spurs.
In addition, he is flexible and can either play as left back or right back. However, he has not convinced all that much. Mostly he is appearing because of Luke Shaw’s injury and his performances have been rather uninspiring.
Added to some big blunders in his challenges, he also has neither scored nor set up any goals in the league and is missing the offensive potential you would like to see by a left/right back. This also results in him only getting a 2.6 Rating by goal.com.
