In one of the most anticipated Liga MX matches this weekend, Cruz Azul will host Santos Laguna on Saturday, April 16, 2016 (3:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azul. This Clausura 2016 Week 14 match will be one of the must-watch games as it involves two teams deep in a playoff qualification battle.
Cruz Azul will attempt to return to ‘winning-mode- ever since their last win last March 19 against Atlas. Since then, the team coached by Tomas Boy tied against Pachuca, got eliminated from the Copa MX by Necaxa, and lost last week against the weakest team, Dorados. Nonetheless, the ‘cementeros’ are still in a solid position to reach the playoffs as they sit in 6th with 19 points. Against Santos, they have a good but difficult opportunity to win and remain in qualification zone.
In the regular standings, Santos Laguna is one place above Cruz Azul, as they sit in 5th with 21 points. The ‘laguneros’ face a difficult visit in Mexico City, but they will attempt to earn at least a tie which retain them in the top 6 of the standings.
