Manchester United have been linked to Serie A side Torino’s centre-back Nikola Maksimovic who has been dubbed by many as the “new Nemanja Vidic.”
According to Gianluca Di Marzo, the Serbian centre back is set to leave Torino this summer and United have emerged as contenders for him. They’re hoping to use their good relations with Torino, after signing current right back Matteo Darmian last season, to land Maksimovic also.
Only 24 years of age the centre-back is already earning comparisons to fellow Serbian Nemanja Vidic.
Maksimovic has only appeared in 13 matches this season due to injury, but when he has played, he’s impressed. He reads the game well and is good in the air. Overall he’s a well rounded defender that would be an excellent addition to Manchester United’s squad.
When Vidic was at Manchester United he was one of the best centre-backs in the world and Rio Ferdinand and him formed one of the best centre-back duos. If Maksimovic moves over to Manchester this summer, Chris Smalling and him could become the new centre-back duo at Old Trafford. Marcus Rojo and Phil Jones have been inconsistent this season when healthy so Maksimovic could move straight into the starting XI.
Do you think Maksimovic will be at Manchester United next season?
