17 year-old midfielder Marcus McGuane has officially penned a professional contract with Arsenal, his first step into senior-level play.
McGuane, an Irish international, has moved quickly through the Arsenal youth system, where he started out at the age of six. Most recently, he has been a centerpiece for the Arsenal U-18 and U-21 squads, while also garnering stints of training with the first team.
At the international level, McGuane has contributed to Ireland’s U-17 squad, and will be expecting senior team looks as his stock increases with crucial Premier League experience.
A defensive-minded midfielder by trade, McGuane also has the versatility to be played on either wing of the pitch. The young standout excels though in the deep central midfield, showing poise while possessing the ball and utilizing a dependable first touch.
Not only can McGuane control the tempo of the game with the ball at his feet, but he has the talent to expose holes in coverage and force pressure on opposing defenses.
While McGuane is still relatively inexperience at the first team level, Arsene Wenger will be excited to see what the young midfielder can achieve in the coming years. McGuane has already showed poise at the youth level, and now appears primed and ready to take his skills to the next level.
