Manchester United are close to finalizing a €21 million deal with Dynamo Kyiv for centre back Aleksandar Dragovic, according to sportsmediaset.
Dragovic would be the first signing for Louis Van Gaal this transfer period and a much needed acquisition. United have been dealt serious blows with injuries to defenders Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, and Antonio Valencia, all out for an extended period of time. Van Gaal has had to call on the likes of Ashley Young to play in the back and he’s looking to strengthen his defence.
United have reportedly been extensively scouting the Austrian international. He made the move to the Ukrainian club after finding success at FC Basel in Switzerland. The 24-year-old is comfortable with the ball at his feet and a force in the air. He could make a good partner for Chris Smalling. Dragovic still has a lot to learn but he has a ton of potential.
However Kyiv have made it past the group stage and into the knockout stage of the Champions League. With that in mind, it could be tough for Kyiv to sell their prized defenceman.

How well United does in the second half of the season could be determined by what they do during the transfer period this month. If the Dragovic deal goes through and they grabbed Lazio attacker Felipe Anderson, who they’ve been heavily linked to, it would go down for many as a successful transfer window.
Do you like the idea of Dragovic at Old Trafford? Who else does Van Gaal need to sign this January?
