Multiple reports from Spain, including news outlet ONDA CERO, indicates Real Madrid have fired manager Rafa Benitez.
Real Madrid top brass held an emergency meeting Monday morning and determined it was in the clubs best interest to let go Benitez and promote football legend and current Real Madrid Castilla manager Zinadine Zidane to the post, according to Marca.
Benitez was under fire from the moment he was hired by senior first-team players who felt he did not bring what they needed to compete for a La Liga championship.
Madrid tied Valencia 2-2 on Sunday which was the final straw in a long list of failures the team has endured under Benitez. They were thrashed 4-0 by archrivals Barcelona in the Clasico in November and were unceremoniously expelled from the Copa del Rey after fielding an ineligible player.
Real are currently third in La Liga, only four points from the lead, but club President Florentino Perez is desperate to keep pace with city rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
