Jesse Lingard is enjoying life at Old Trafford, he has made his breakthrough to the first team after spending time on loan at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and most recently Derby County. Enquiries were made earlier this season from the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, to take the young star on loan, however Van Gaal felt this could be the season when Jesse could finally make an impact for the first team and so refused the requests.
That faith has been repaid, with the young star producing thrilling performances that have pleased the Old Trafford faithful, more so due to the criticism Van Gaal has faced on the style of play being adopted by United. Lingard has been a breath of fresh air, providing much needed pace and cutting edge in the attacking play that has been lacking.
It all could have been very different as Lingard told MUTV “I was at a local club Penketh United and Mike Glennie, a Manchester United scout, came to watch me…He spoke to my granddad and offered me trials but there was also interest from Liverpool and I had to pick. I was only young but obviously my heart was with United at the time.”
With Lingard having opened his account against West Brom, and receiving his first full England call up, he must be pleased with the choice that he has made, and United fans will be even more pleased he chose them over their bitter rivals,
