Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that he will have the services of Michael Carrick available to him for their clash against Arsenal. United are to travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday for what is usually one of the best clashes of the season.
Speaking to MUTV, LvG said, “Carrick can play so I have a choice. I am happy to say there are no injuries from [the Wolfsburg game].”
United midfielder Michael Carrick got injured recently and was thus unable to appear for their Champion’s League match against Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. However, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger took over the midfield and secured a victory for United.
Even with Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger both in incredible form, Michael Carrick is still an essential part of the Red Devil’s team after playing a key role in United’s victories over Liverpool, Southampton and Sunderland.
While on the topic of fitness, Van Gaal expressed concerns over his players’ fatigue as he was heard saying, “The solution is recovery, recovery, recovery. That is why it’s so difficult to prepare for the match against Arsenal. As a manager, you want to prepare on the pitch and you cannot do it because you need freshness of the players, so then there’s also another solution – to change your squad”.
After hearing these comments from United’s master tactician, it would be fair for us to assume that we will be seeing a rather different team than the one that lined up in midweek. No matter who plays though, a victory will be the only thing expected from Manchester United as they look to cement their place at the top of the table.
