Rooney’s final chance? – Strongest Manchester United Lineup vs Newcastle United

Manchester United have made a solid if unspectacular start to their campaign with three consecutive victories but in terms of performances, the Red Devils have much to improve upon.

Admittedly results are the most important thing in the Premier League but United are somewhat obliged to put in attractive performances as well and manager Louis van Gaal will surely be demanding his side to claim a victory in style when they square off against Newcastle United this weekend.

Here is the Strongest Possible Lineup for Manchester United against Club Brugge –

Goalkeeper

Sergio Romero has done fairly well in the three matches he has featured in so far and the Argentine international will be handed a start against Newcastle United as well.

Newcastle do possess a couple of dangerous attacking players in their squad and Romero will surely have to be on his best to keep the Magpies at bay on Saturday.

Defence

Despite all the talk regarding Manchester United requiring a new defender, the Red Devils backline has performed very well so far and van Gaal is unlikely to change things around for Saturday.

Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmain seem to be forging a very good partnership in defence and the quartet will surely start against Newcastle as well.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo remained sidelined with injuries which means that young duo Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett could take their place on the bench.

Midfield

Memphis Depay proved why Manchester United splashed so much cash to secure his services by putting in a match winning performance in the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Club Brugge in midweek and the young Dutchman will surely be looking to continue his rich vein of form against Newcastle as well.

Adnan Januzaj could also be handed a start following his winning goal against Villa while the impressive Juan Mata, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick look certain starters for United under van Gaal.

Marouane Fellaini remains unavailable due to suspension but one should expect Bastian Schweinsteiger to feature on the day in some capacity.

Attack

Wayne Rooney has come under a lot of criticism for his ineffectual performances so far and while he did improve against Club Brugge, the United captain was not at his best once again.

It would seem inconceivable to think that Rooney could be dropped but if the striker does not improve, van Gaal may well decide to hand Javier Hernandez a chance to impress.
