Manchester United have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Benfica over the signing of Nicolas Gaitan, according to reports emerging out of Portuguese media outlet O Jogo.
It is no secret that Manchester United have been in the market to bring in a new attacking player following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao and now Angel Di Maria trying to force his way out of Old Trafford has further heightened the Red Devils’ need to reinforce their attack.
Pedro has heavily been linked with a move to United but with the deal longer than anticipated, the Red Devils have been forced to look at alternatives as well and it had been reported that the Premier League giants had reignited their interest in signing Nicolas Gaitan.
Gaitan to join United
Gaitan has long been linked with a move to United and the Red Devils are finally ramping up their pursuit to sign the Argentinean international.
Now in a further development to the story, it has emerged that United are now on the verge of securing the services of Gaitan after reaching a ‘verbal agreement’ with Benfica over the transfer of the 27-year old.
According to Portuguese news outlet O’Jogo, United have agreed a fee in principle of around £20million for the attacking midfielder. It has also been claimed that United will allow striker Javier Hernandez to join Benfica on a season long loan as part of the deal.
