“No Thanks!” Manchester United fans react as international star set to join

Sergio Romero

Manchester United fans are divided upon reports that Sergio Romero is set to join the club on a £68,000-per-week deal

It was widely believed that Victor Valdes would be the man replacing David De Gea as the number one between the sticks at Manchester United upon the latter’s departure to Real Madrid but following Valdes’ unsavory spat with manager Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.

The likes of Hugo Lloris, Fernando Muslera and Jasper Cillessen have all been linked with a move to United in the past few weeks but it seems like the Premier League side have elected to go with Argentine international Sergio Romero in a surprise move.

Romero – No more than a backup?

According to various reports, Romero has already agreed a move to United on a £68,000-per-week deal and the move is set to be completed pending a medical.

Van Gaal is well aware of Romero’s abilities after having worked closely with the goalkeeper during their time together at AZ Alkmaar and the fact that United have been able to sign an experienced custodian on a free transfer does represent a good deal for the club.

However, majority of the United fans on Twitter seem to be skeptical regarding the arrival of Romero and many feel that he is not good enough to command the number one spot at Old Trafford.
