Better than Clyne? Manchester United close in star right back

Old Trafford

After missing out on Nathaniel Clyne, Manchester United have set their sights on signing Italian international Matteo Darmian

Many Manchester United fans were left baffled that they lost out on the signature of Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool but some have put forward the hypothesis that the Red Devils were not pursuing the Southampton defender in the first place.

Nonetheless, there is no denying the fact that United will need to sign a new right back this summer due to the fact that Rafael is likely to exit Old Trafford and a host of players continue to be linked with a move to Manchester.

Now according to reports emerging out of Italy, it has been claimed that United are currently pursuing the services of Torino defender Matteo Darmian.

Darmain could be set for United move

Darmain has been arguably one of the best defenders in the Italian Serie A during the last four seasons and enjoyed another solid campaign with Torino last term.

As a result, Darmain has been linked with a host of clubs such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Napoli and now it can be revealed by respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio that even Manchester United have joined in the race for the 25-year old.

Louis van Gaal is said to be tempted towards purchasing Darmain due to his versatility and is now preparing to table a bid in the region of around £14million in order to convince Torino into selling their prized asset.
