Liverpool have swooped in ahead of Manchester United in the race for Roberto Firmino – according to reports from the Express
Following his stunning season with Hoffenheim, Roberto Firmino is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment and it was widely reported that Premier League giants Manchester United were on the verge of completing a move for the Brazilian star.
To further fuel the speculation that Firmino could be on his way to United, his agent had confirmed recently that the attacking midfielder is set to make a move to England this summer.
However in a stunning twist to the story, it is now being claimed that Firmino is not set for a switch to Manchester United and is instead heading towards the Red Devils’ fierce rivals Liverpool.
Roberto Firmino could be set for Liverpool
According to the Express, Liverpool are in the pole position to secure the signing of Firmino after placing a £17.8million bid and the Reds are also believed to have tabled a lucrative five year contract for the 23-year old.
It remains to be seen whether Firmino will agree to join Liverpool due to the club’s absence in the Champions League but if indeed the Premier League giants are able to lure the midfielder to Anfield, it would represent a massive coup for the club.
With Raheem Sterling all but set for a big money exit from the Anfield, Liverpool do have the financial resources to attract Firmino and he would certainly prove to be a more than capable replacement for the departing England international.
