End of the Road for Rafael? Manchester United monitoring Dutch star

According to reports, Manchester United are planning a shock swoop to sign Newcastle United right Daryl Janmaat – which could well spell the end of the road for Rafael

Although considered an extremely talented player, Rafael has never quite been able to establish himself as one of the best full backs in the Premier League and the current campaign has proven to be a particularly difficult one for 24-year old.

Injuries allied with poor form have meant that Rafael has had to play second fiddle to Antonio Valencia in the right back position and it is clear to see that manager Louis van Gaal does not have too much faith in the Brazilian full back’s ability.

To make matters worse, Rafael injured his rib during a reserve game recently and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

With Manchester United reportedly courting Nathaniel Clyne, Rafael’s long term future at Old Trafford had been put in real doubt and now to further fuel speculation regarding the 24-year old’s departure from the club – it has been reported by the Chronicle that the Red Devils are also pondering a swoop for Newcastle United right back Daryl Janmaat.

While Clyne remains United’s first choice, the Englishman’s reported £25million price tag is putting off United and now it is believed that van Gaal is looking at a cheaper option in the form of Janmaat who could be available in the region of around only £10-12million.

Either way, it looks like Rafael is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and will most likely be offloaded by United at the end of the season.
