Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea welcome in-form Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in what would prove an exciting encounter between two top teams in the league. Van Gaal’s team have been on fire in recent weeks, playing some of the best soccer in the division. The Dutchman appears to have finally found his best eleven and would be looking to add Chelsea to his growing list of high-profile casualties.
The Blues on the other hand, have been grinding out victories in recent weeks unable to replicate their blistering form of a few months ago. However, they are league leaders for a reason and should be considered favorites heading into this game. If experience has taught us anything, it’s the fact that the Special One’s team always rise up to the occasion whenever they face the top sides in the league.
With that in mind, here’s the possible starting eleven that the Portugese might go with against manchester United:
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois had a great game against QPR last weekend making two great saves to keep his team in the game when the scores were still level. Mourinho would be counting on him to put on a similar display against United between the sticks, while hoping that his opposite number (De Gea) has an off-day.
Defenders
John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta should again be favorites to start against Manchester United.
Midfielders
Ramirez is expected to keep his place, at Oscar’s expense, in the starting eleven as Mourinho usually favors hardworkers over more skillful players in important games like this. Willian, Hazard, Matic, and last weekend’s match-winner, Cesc Fabregas, should complete the five-man midfield.
Striker
Didier Drogba was almost completely anonymous against QPR and is likely to lose the starting spot to Remy, who is also faster and more liklely to keep the Red Devils’ back four on their toes all game.
