The game Paraguay vs Mexico will take place on Tuesday, March 31 at 9 EST at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
After the defensive heroics of Corona that enabled Mexico to claim victory over Ecuador on a lone goal from Chicharito, Mexico will try their luck against Paraguay.
Mexico Team News
Mexico will try the type of two front warfare this summer that was not successful in World War II. With two competitions this summer, Mexico coach Miguel Herrera has adopted a policy that he hopes will yield maximum results. Essentially two teams will be selected to compete in two different places over the summer.
The better Mexico squad will be sent to the Gold Cup, because Mexico need to win the competition in order to force a playoff with the United States for a berth in the 2017 Confederations Cup. This is the team we saw knock off Ecuador 1-0.
The supposedly weaker side will be sent down to South America to take on some teams south of the equator. The B squad should get a run out against Paraguay. Expect to see a lineup that looks nothing like the last, because it’s all part of the two team plan of Miguel Herrera.
Paraguay Team News
Paraguay’s form has been less than desired. While it is difficult to put a great deal of stock in international form when the majority of matches are friendlies used for ironing out kinks and trying new systems, one win in the last five matches does not bode well heading into a match against Mexico.
While it will not be against the strongest Mexico side possible, it will certainly be better than a China squad that this Paraguay team lost to in its stretch of poor performances.
Mexico vs Paraguay Prediction
This looks like a game that could become scrappy. With Mexico fielding its second choice team, players will be sure to work hard to prove their worth for selection in the Gold Cup squad. Paraguay is simply not accustomed to winning games. Look for Mexico to walk off the field 3-1 victors.
