Strongest Possible Lineup: Liverpool vs Swansea City

Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool have finally finished the most difficult part of their schedule and they were able to get through it without losing ground in the race for a Champions League berth. With the return of a healthy Steven Gerrard, the team should be confident in beating a Swansea side that has lost two of its last six games.

Goalkeeper

Simon Mignolet has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since the New Year and should have another clean sheet against Swansea. With the health of Bafetimbi Gomis in question, it will be interesting to see who starts in the striker role for the Welsh team.

Center Backs

Emre Can has been a fixture in the lineup since the switch to the new formation. Martin Skrtel may return to the squad after injuring himself in the last match against Blackburn. Dejan Lovren could start again since Mamadou Sakho‘s health is still in question.

The Liverpool defense should be encouraged by the lack of a threatening striker but they should remember that there are still a few dangerous players in the Swansea midfield that they should keep track of.

Center Midfield

The midfield pair of Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard, if Rodgers decides to start him, will have to deal with a numbers deficit since Swansea could play with 3 center midfielders. While the Reds will need to help on offense, they will also need to assist the defense in dealing with Jonjo ShelveyJack Cork and Ki Sung-yueng.

Left Wing Back

Alberto Moreno’s speed and defensive skills will be an asset against Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea’s main creator. If Moreno is able to shackle the Icelandic midfielder, that will put the pressure on the other Swansea to step up and create in his place.

Right Wing Back

Lazar Markovic’s energy will allow him to deal with the width of the Swansea attack, but he should still be able to influence the game on the offensive end. He should relish the opportunity to attack Neil Taylor.

Forwards

Raheem SterlingDaniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho should be able to break through an average Swansea defense that has conceded 37 goals this season. While Sterling and Coutinho have been playing well during this winning run for the team, Sturridge still has not returned to the fearsome form he had last season.
