It is no secret that footballers are capable of doing some stupid things and Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny was the latest player who was shamed due to his actions after he was caught smoking in the dressing room following the Gunners’ Premier League clash against Southampton a two weeks ago.
With such grave a breach of discipline, the young goalkeeper has unsurprisingly been punished with a hefty fine and to make matters worse – he seems to have lost his number one place between the sticks at the Emirates Stadium to David Ospina.
There is no denying that Szczesny is a very talented young player but sometimes his extremely high self confidence tends to get the better of him and as a result, the 24-year old has not developed into the world class custodian everybody was expecting him to.
Szczesny could be set for an exit from Arsenal
Now following his latest indiscretion, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is said to have lost his faith in Szczesny and the Frenchman could well be open to offloading the goalkeeper if a good offer comes along.
If Szczesny does indeed leave the Emirates Stadium, it is clear that the Gunners will need to sign a replacement and according to reports emerging out of England – it has been claimed that Wenger is a eyeing a swoop for young sensation Mattia Perin.
Perin burst into the scene for Italian side Genoa in recent times and he is currently regarded as one of the finest young goalkeepers around in Europe following his brilliant performances over the last year or so.
Perin could prove to be a great replacement for Szczesny
Such wonderful displays has led to Perin being hailed as the long term successor to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national team and it has been no surprise to see a host of top clubs eyeing a move for the 22-year old.
Liverpool were said to be leading the race to sign Perin but now Arsenal have also entered the competition and are said to be confident of landing the young man’s services ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Perin has shown every sign that he will eventually become a top class goalkeeper and the 22-year old could certainly prove to be a great asset for Arsenal in the years to come, especially if Szczesny is sold by the Gunners.
