Manchester United consider shock move for veteran defender

With the transfer window fast approaching, reports linking various players to Manchester United have increased exponentially over the past few months and usually the rumors range from interesting to plain ridiculous.

The latest rumor doing the rounds claiming that Patrice Evra looks set to make a shock return to Manchester United certainly falls into the latter category.

It is no secret that Evra is a legend at Manchester United after having spent eight glorious years at the club, where the defender amassed over 350 appearances.

With United going under a major revamp under Louis van Gaal over the summer, Evra decided to leave his beloved Red Devils and join Italian giants Juventus.

Evra set for Manchester United return?

After a promising start to life in Turin, Evra has been in an out of the team recently – with injuries not helping his cause. It has also been claimed that the 33-year old has not settled in as well as he would have liked at Juventus.

As a result, Italian media have move on to claim that Evra could now well be set for a return to Manchester United.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Evra is considering a switch back to United till the end of the season and that manager Louis van Gaal would be open to taking the Frenchman on board due to the injury crisis he is currently facing in defence.

While United could go with a defender of Evra’s caliber to help them out, the rumors certainly have to be taken with a pinch of salt as van Gaal has shown that he is not afraid to entrust his faith in youngsters such as Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett and the arrival of Evra would certainly be detrimental to their development.
