The European champions finally won their 10th title back in May. While this helps get rid of a ghost that has been haunting them since 2002, Real Madrid are also going to be asked for more now. With a brilliant and powerful attacking line, a solid midfield and a good defense, Los Merengues still need some changes in order to continue to fight for every title.
Winning the Champions League makes the rest of Europe pay attention to your players and seduce them into joining their sides. With a few contract renewals pending and a few decisions to make on players that want a move out of the club, this transfer window looks to be a busy one for Carlo Ancelotti. President Florentino Pérez has never been a man to announce signings during the World Cup or European Championship, as he always waits for things to conclude in order to make his move. Let’s take a look at what players should join Madrid before August 31st:
1. David de Gea
The Spanish international will most likely become the permanent #1 for La Roja. At just 23 years old, de Gea has the potential to become one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. While this season may have been catastrophic for his club Manchester United, this doesn’t mean that de Gea isn’t a great player. This just means that the team as a whole had a bad season and a bad coach.
The Red Devils paid a record 29 million euros for him back in 2011, so the signing won’t be a cheap one. However, considering that Diego López and Iker Casillas are nearing the end of their careers, it would be good to have a replacement already lined up. De Gea’s past as a Colchonero might be another problem for Los Blancos, since out of respect for Atlético, he could just say no. Nevertheless, it doesn’t hurt to ask and sooner or later Real Madrid will need to sign a goalkeeper and David should be on the top of the list.
