According to The Guardian, Manchester United is eager to pursue the signing of Germany and Borussia Dortmund’s, Mats Hummels.

Although Mats Hummels is focused on Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina, he has still displayed interest in moving to the Premier League this summer. Hummels has shown nothing but greatness throughout his club and international career. Being a target for both Manchester United and FC Barcelona this transfer window, Borussia Dortmund have set a value for the German star of £30 million. However, Manchester United believe they can obtain Mats Hummels with a £20 million bid, plus Kagawa.

Career

Mats Hummels signed with Borussia Dortmund in 2009 and is under contract until 2017. As a top-class operator, Hummels’ success came his first full season, when he was considered a starter. With complex and creative ways of defending, Hummels has shown an extraordinary performance in all games. Hummels has won two Bundesliga titles, one German cup, and played in the Champions League final in 2013, which was lost to Bayern Munich.

Along with his club career, he has had a successful international career with Germany. With more than thirty caps, Hummels has shown significant leadership and consistency throughout the World Cup. Scoring the only goal against France to send Germany into the semi finals, he has scored two goals, recovered thirty eight balls, and has a passing completion of 81. 5 percent.

Possible Transfer

Louis van Gaal’s interest in the Borussia Dortmund star has raised a potential transfer talk this summer. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic gone, the Red Devils are seeking a player of higher or equal quality to take the lead on the defensive line and create a solid structure. Mats Hummels is a player that wins most of his duels, clears the ball with his fine ball control, and creates opportunities for the team.

As an admirer of Louis van Gaal, Mats Hummels welcomes the chance to work with the new Manchester United coach. Hummels has mentioned being open to moving to the Premier League; he isn’t expecting anything to happen this summer, however, if Borussia Dortmund receives a bid that cannot be turned down, Old Trafford will be rewarded with a top class player.

Manchester United isn’t the only team in the race for the German defender. FC Barcelona and Luis Enrique are determined to make Mats Hummels their next signing this summer. FC Barcelona are desperate for a player that can bring his talents and high competency to Camp Nou as a solid replacement for Puyol.

The chances of Mats Hummels being transferred this summer are slim. With his contract extension until 2017 and small transfer talks between teams, the probability that he will leave Borussia Dortmund is less than fifty percent, because even though he has been linked to both teams, there has been no advanced negotiations yet. Things might clear up after the conclusion of the World Cup.
